Edward Hopper's luminous paintings captured classic images of middle-class America and made him one of the most popular artists of the twentieth century. This exhibition focuses on the period of Hopper's greatest achievementsfrom about 1925 to mid-centuryduring which he produced many works now considered icons of American art. Comprising fifty oil paintings, thirty watercolors, and twelve prints, including the favorites Nighthawks, Chop Suey, and Lighthouse and Buildings, Portland Head, Cape Elizabeth, Maine, this exhibition's comprehensive appraisal of Hopper is not to be missed.
An icon of American art, Nighthawks is one of many works from the artist's period of greatest achievement on view in "Edward Hopper" in the Gund Gallery at the Museum of Fine Arts, Huntington Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, through August 19. The exhibition is organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; National Gallery of Art, Washington; and The Art Institute of Chicago. Generously supported in part by Mary L. Cornille and John F.
